Scissor sharpening guy came through my shop last week

I always thought those mobile sharpening services were a total scam until this guy named Dave showed up and fixed my 2 year old Joewell shears in 10 minutes flat. He explained how I've been cutting into the blade edge by using the wrong part near the pivot, and now they cut like brand new. Has anyone else had good luck with a traveling sharpener or did I just get lucky?

Wait, he fixed Joewells in 10 minutes? Those are serious shears, not some cheap drugstore scissors. That's actually insane if he knew exactly what he was doing with the pivot area. Most guys just run a stone over the edge and call it done, but having one who can explain the cutting angle and blade geometry is rare. I'm honestly shocked because I've had a few traveling sharpeners ruin cheaper scissors before. Sounds like you stumbled onto one of the old school guys who actually trained under someone instead of just watching a YouTube video.

That bit about most guys just running a stone over the edge is exactly why I avoid most services now, finding a real pro is like finding a needle in a haystack.
