Shoutout to the old barber manual I found at a garage sale

I picked up a 1972 barbering textbook for two bucks and it said a straight razor shave used to take 45 minutes minimum. I always thought it was a quick thing they just did fast in the movies. How did shops even make money back then if each shave took that long?

Imagine charging by the hour for a shave. No wonder guys just grew beards.

Remember paying twenty bucks for a basic haircut and the barber tried to charge extra for "detailing" around the edges. My beard started that same day. It's just a money grab now, like they're sculpting a statue instead of trimming hair. I'll keep my razor and my cash, thanks.
