Spent 3 hours fixing a fade line that was actually my clipper hinge

I was fighting this weird dark line on the side of a client's head for a full 3 hours, rebalancing guards and changing my angle every which way. Turns out the hinge pin on my Wahl cordless had worked loose just enough to let the blade rock mid-pass. Has anyone else chased a phantom line only to find it was the tool, not your skill?

Did you check the hinge before you started or after you tore everything apart? I always blame my technique first too, it's like muscle memory kicks in before common sense does. Maybe we all need a 5 minute tool check before every cut to save the headache.
