That customer who told me to skip the pre-shave oil...

Had a guy come in last month, swore I was wasting his time and money putting on pre-shave oil before his hot towel. He said he'd been getting cuts done for 15 years and never needed it. Well, his skin was so dry and tight I couldn't get a clean line on his neckline without tugging. Had to stop mid-shave and apply some anyway... has anyone else dealt with clients who think they know your tools better than you do?

Roll my eyes so hard they almost got stuck up there. Had a guy tell me his electric razor at home works better than my German straight blade because "it doesn't pull." Yeah buddy, that's because your beard is two days old and your face is basically sandpaper from skipping oil and lotion for a decade. I just let him finish his shave with the oil I snuck on anyway and handed him a mirror. He looked like a newborn baby and didn't say a word after that.

Little correction though - a straight blade shouldn't be pulling at all if the angle is right and the blade is sharp. That tugging feeling people get usually means the blade needs honing or they're holding it too steep. But yeah, totally agree on the beard prep thing. Nothing makes me cringe harder than watching someone skip pre-shave oil and then blame their razor lol. I had a client once complain his skin was on fire after I used a brand new Feather blade on him, turned out he hadn't washed his face in like three days and was rubbing alcohol all over it beforehand.
