Unpopular opinion: I think adjustable combs are a waste of time for most cuts

Broke my last adjustable comb halfway through a haircut on Tuesday. It just snapped at the hinge while I was doing a mid-fade blend. I ended up finishing the whole cut with just my clipper and shears. Honestly the result was cleaner than when I use those combs anyway. They always feel flimsy and I never get the guard settings right. Has anyone else ditched them entirely and gone back to basics?

Man, same thing happened to me last month with a cheap plastic one mid-fade. Completely agree, going back to just clipper and shears makes everything simpler and way cleaner.

That's exactly what happened to me. Had one of those cheap guards snap right off in the middle of a haircut. Left a big bald spot I had to fix with trimmer guards. Learned my lesson though. Been using a solid steel clipper with a basic set of numbered guards for about six months now. No breakage, no surprises. Just clean cuts every time. Plastic guards just aren't worth the hassle.

Damn straight! I saw this review online from a barber who tested like 15 different guard sets and the cheap plastic ones all cracked within 3 months. He said the metal ones lasted through years of daily use without any issues. Makes you wonder why they even sell the plastic crap. I switched to a basic steel clipper after my old one started rattling like crazy. No fancy attachments, just the numbered guards that came with it. Never looking back.
