Unpopular opinion: I think clipper-over-comb is overrated for most fades
Had a convo with an old-timer at the shop last Tuesday who said he never uses clipper-over-comb on anything but long hair... Made me realize I've been forcing it on fades when shears or guards would look smoother. Anyone else think we lean too hard on that technique?

I gotta disagree with you on that one. I learned clipper over comb from my mentor and it's the only way I can get a really smooth blend on tight fades without choppy lines from guards. When I'm doing a zero fade or a mid drop, using the comb lets me see exactly where the hair is falling and blend it section by section. I think it takes practice but once you get the hand movement down it gives way more control than guards can.
