Unpopular opinion: Skip the clipper-over-comb method for tight fades

Old timer at my barber college said to drop clipper-over-comb for fade work and just use guards, I ignored him for 6 months and lost 3 clients who wanted smoother blends. Who else thinks he was right or wrong on this one?

My barber school instructor drilled clipper-over-comb into me for three months straight and I still think it's overrated for tight fade work. Guards give you that consistent blend every time with no guesswork, especially around the parietal ridge. The clipper-over-comb moves too much hair around and leaves those little spots you gotta chase down. Lost a customer myself when I tried going back to the old way after he complained about choppy lines. The old timer at your college knew what he was talking about, guards are just faster and cleaner for modern fades.

Guards saved me from my own shaky hands more times than I'd like to admit...
