Check the spines at the Goodwill in Tacoma before you buy

I was there last Saturday and found three books that looked fine on the shelf but had split spines and loose pages once I opened them, so has anyone else noticed their new shipments are coming in worse shape than usual?

Honestly, the Tacoma store has always been a crapshoot for me, so this might just be normal wear and tear. Books get dropped, shoved, and read a million times before they hit the donation bin, that's the whole point of a thrift store. It's not like they're promising mint condition, you're paying two bucks for a book that's already lived a life. Split spines are kind of the cost of doing business there, and honestly, finding a readable copy at all is a win in my book. Maybe the new shipments are worse, but the old ones weren't exactly pristine either, so I'm not sure it's a real change.
