Our library's book sale shifted from mostly romance to mostly thrillers in 5 years

I volunteer at the Friends of the Library sale in Des Moines every spring. Back in 2018, the romance section was 3 full tables and we had to rotate stock. This year, those same tables are maybe half full of romance, while the thriller section has doubled and spills into the mystery area. I asked one of the older volunteers about it and she said it started around 2020, right when everyone got into those domestic suspense books. She thinks people just want faster reads now. I also noticed the hardcover fiction pile barely moves, but paperbacks with red or black covers fly out the door. Has anyone else seen this shift at their local sales, or is ours just weird?
