Rant: started checking the last 3 pages of old hardcovers and it keeps paying off
I got tired of passing up boring looking hardcovers at estate sales in Des Moines so I started flipping to the last few blank pages before walking away. Last month I pulled a $1 copy of a 1952 farm almanac and found a handwritten list of every book the guy owned, plus $18 tucked in the back cover, and this has happened 4 times now with notes, stamps, or cash. Does anyone else check the back pages first, or am I just getting lucky with hoarder books?
The "hoarder books" thing is real, estate sale folks hide cash in the last few pages because nobody flips that far. I check back covers and page edges on anything older than 1960, and I've pulled old stamps and a $50 bill that way. Your hit rate is way better than mine though, so keep doing whatever you're doing.
