That retired librarian who shamed me for buying a bestseller at a yard sale

Last Saturday I was at a church yard sale in Grand Rapids and grabbed a beat-up copy of a popular thriller for 50 cents. This older woman, turns out she ran the library book sale for 20 years, walked over and said "you know that one's everywhere, right? every sale has three copies." She pointed me to a box of 1970s sci-fi paperbacks instead, said they never last past noon. I get that bestsellers are easy reads and cheap, but she made me wonder if I'm wasting my time on common finds. Do you hunt for rarer stuff even if it's not your usual genre, or just grab whatever's a good deal?
