The way I used to grab every hardcover at Goodwill, now I only check the clearance cart first

I used to hit the bookstore section like a tornado, grabbing any hardcover under $3 that looked even half-decent. My living room had stacks everywhere, and honestly half of them were moldy or missing pages, I never even checked. Last spring though, I went to the big Goodwill off I-35 in Austin and saw a cart by the register with books priced at 25 cents each, way cheaper than the shelf stuff. Turns out they wheel out the ugly or damaged stuff every Tuesday morning, and I found a 1987 hardback of The Name of the Rose with a torn cover but perfect pages. Now I always ask at the desk when they put that cart out, and I skip the regular shelves completely unless I'm looking for something super specific. Anyone else got a hidden discount cart trick at their local thrift store, or am I just weird about the extra 50 cents?

Ha! That cart is the real deal, I always ask them to check the back for damaged ones too.
