Had a customer bring in a bike with a weird creak that took me 2 hours to find

It was a carbon road bike from 2018, and the noise only happened under hard pedaling. I checked the usual spots like the bottom bracket and cranks, but everything was tight. Finally, I pulled the seatpost and found a tiny crack in the carbon under the clamp that you could only see with a bright light. The owner said he'd been riding it like that for months. Has anyone else had a creak turn out to be a hidden frame crack?

52 bucks says that "tiny crack" will turn into a full blown frame failure the second he hits a pothole. Carbon is like a ticking time bomb once it starts cracking, especially under a seatpost clamp where you can't even see it. I bet he's been throwing all his weight on that thing for months just waiting for it to snap. Good thing you caught it before he ended up with a carbon fiber surprise in his backside.

Months? That's terrifying.
