Hot take: disc brakes ruined the whole feel of my vintage Cannondale

I took my 85 Cannondale touring frame and swapped the old centerpulls for a set of TRP Spyre disc brakes. After 200 miles on the C&O towpath near Hancock, the stopping power is great, but the frame just feels dead now - all that flex is gone and it vibrates through my hands. Anyone else notice a big change in ride quality after ditching rim brakes on an old steel frame?

See it completely different on my end. I put TRP Spyes on my old Trek 520 a few years back and to me the bike feels more solid and responsive, not dead at all. Maybe the difference is we're riding different terrain, that towpath can get pretty beat up and the vibrations might be coming from the tires and fork more than the new calipers. You might want to check your pad alignment or try some different rotors, I had a set of cheap ones that made my hands buzz like crazy too.

Actually Spyes use BB5 pads not BB7 ones.

Funny, I totally see it different. Spent a season on Spyes and swapped back to my old BB7s because the braking felt vague. Maybe you got a good set? That 520 is a steel frame though, soaks up vibes way better than my aluminum commuter. Terrain matters a ton too.
