I keep seeing shops use a 5mm hex on crank bolts instead of an 8mm, and it drives me nuts. One guy in Denver stripped three before he asked me. Isn't this basic?

Actually, it's usually a 6mm, not a 5mm. Harper_gibson2 is right that it's annoying, but the smaller size is often for self-extracting bolts. The real problem is using the wrong tool or a worn-out hex key.

Ugh, that's the worst! It's such a cheap shortcut. No wonder he stripped them.
