I saw a shop skip a crucial spoke check on a wheel rebuild

A local shop I know rebuilt a wheel but didn't tension all the spokes properly (to save time, I guess). Now I'm wondering if I should say something to the owner. A loose spoke can lead to a wheel collapse, which is dangerous. But I don't want to start trouble for the mechanic. How do you handle seeing shady work from another shop?

Honestly, you gotta say something. I had a customer bring in a wheel from another shop that was way out of true, and when I pointed it out, the owner was thankful for the catch. Just approach it like you're helping them avoid a bigger problem, maybe say you noticed the spokes felt loose during a test ride. It's about safety, not blaming anyone, and a good shop will want to fix it.

My buddy Tom took his bike to a shop in Denver last spring. They rushed a wheel job and a spoke snapped on a descent, he took a bad fall. Now he always tells people to speak up if they see dodgy work, it's not worth the risk.
