That customer in Portland who showed me my wheel true was off

Last spring a guy brought in a road bike complaining about a wobble I could barely feel. I spun the wheel and told him it looked fine, but he asked me to put a dial indicator on it. Turned out the lateral runout was nearly 0.8mm, way over what I thought was acceptable. He just said 'you trust your hands too much, trust the tool instead.' Now I check every wheel with a gauge before I hand it back, has anyone else had a customer catch something like that?

Damn, 0.8mm is huge. Cant believe you couldnt feel that.
