The 90-day difference a $15 spoke wrench made on my wheel builds

I used to true wheels with a cheap multi-tool spoke key, and after 3 months of building for customers in Portland, I noticed my wheels kept going out of round way faster. Switched to a Park Tool SW-0 and same rims, same tension, but now they hold true for like 6 months easy. Anyone else notice that much of a jump just from the tool fit on the nipple, or was my old key just garbage?

honestly the wrench fit matters a ton but 6 months vs 3 months sounds less about the tool and more about how you tensioned the spokes, a bad key just strips nipples and hides the real issue.
