Thermal paste on a presta valve core - what a mess
Picked up a used wheelset from a garage sale last weekend and found the rear valve core was completely seized with thermal paste, not thread locker. Had to replace both cores and the tubes just to get air to hold, has anyone else run into random goop on valve threads before?

Gotta disagree with you on this one. Thermal paste is actually a decent option for sealing valve cores if you're trying to stop a slow leak on a budget build. Sure it's messy but it works way better than thread locker for rubber seals.

Thermal paste as a budget fix for leaking valves? Thats like using peanut butter to patch a tire tube. Sure it might seal for a bit but now you've got a gooey mess that attracts every speck of road grit in a 5 mile radius. At least thread locker dries clear and doesn't look like someone sneezed toothpaste into your valve stem. Did you end up scraping half that paste off the rim bed too or was it just the core?
