Took me two full afternoons to find a busted shift cable ferrule
Swapped out a rear derailleur on my own bike last weekend, brand new cable, fresh housing, the whole thing. Shifting was a mess, couldn't get it into the big ring no matter how much I fiddled with the barrel adjuster. Wasted an entire day checking the derailleur alignment, even pulled the cassette off to confirm the hanger wasn't bent. Finally on day two I noticed the little ferrule at the shifter end was pressed in crooked, pinching the cable just enough to add drag. Ten seconds to fix once I saw it. Started using a proper ferrule seating tool after that, felt dumb for not checking that first. Anyone else get humbled by the smallest part on a job?
