Tried bleeding brakes with a turkey baster before I got a real kit, what a joke
Last Tuesday my Shimano brakes got spongy and I thought I'd save $30 by using a turkey baster and some tubing from the hardware store. I spent two hours making a mess, got fluid all over my kitchen counter, and the brakes still felt like mush. Finally broke down and bought a proper bleed kit from the shop for $35 and had it done in 15 minutes. Anyone else try a hack that cost more time than it was worth?

Learned that lesson the hard way too, sometimes the proper tool is worth every penny.

Went through the exact same thing with my car's cooling system last summer, tried to flush it with a garden hose and ended up with antifreeze all over the driveway. It's funny how we convince ourselves that buying the real tool is "wasting money" when really the hack costs way more in frustration and cleanup time. I've noticed this pattern with almost everything in life like trying to fix a zipper with pliers when a 5 dollar zipper replacement kit exists. The whole "I can figure this out without the proper thing" mentality is a trap that always backfires.
