Watch out for that guy who told me to overtighten my headset

This guy at the co-op said my headset had play and I needed to crank down the top cap hard. I did it and now my steering is grinding after 20 miles. Has anyone else had a bearing get wrecked from following bad advice like that?

Yeah, that advice wrecked my bearings too.

Nobody talks about how that advice only works if you've already got a SOLID foundation. It's like telling someone to fix their roof while their house is burning down.
