TIL that using two cheap bungee cords instead of one fancy strap on my rear rack is way more stable
My buddy Rick, who has been biking to his job in Denver for 9 years, saw my setup last Tuesday and said one cord always lets stuff shift, so use two crossed over the top. I tried it the next morning with my laptop bag and a 12 pack of seltzer, and nothing moved an inch on the 6 mile ride, even hitting the potholes on 17th. So what other tiny gear swaps have you made that sound dumb but just work?
Wait, you put a 12 pack of seltzer AND a laptop bag on the same rack and it held? That is wild to me. I would be white knuckling the whole 6 miles just waiting for the cans to go rolling down 17th. The crossed cords thing makes sense though, since each one pulls against the other instead of just holding things down from one angle.
