Am I the only one who thought the last season of Stranger Things was a letdown?

Last week, I finally binged the new season everyone's been raving about. I watched it all over three days in my apartment in Denver. Honestly, the whole Russian prison subplot felt like it dragged on for at least 4 episodes too long. The show used to be about the kids and their bond, but this time it felt like a bunch of separate, less interesting stories. I kept waiting for it to click, but it just didn't hit the same as the first two seasons for me. Has anyone else felt this way, or did I just miss something?

The Russian prison arc really did feel like a whole separate, slower show.

Yeah, it was slower. Felt like they were just killing time until the main plot could start again.

Hard disagree actually. The Russian prison arc was one of the most tense and well done parts of the whole show. It gave us real stakes and showed how the main character had to adapt to a totally new environment without any of his usual resources or allies. Plus the whole dynamic with the prison boss and that one guard who kept messing with him, that was some of the best character work in the series. Without that slower pacing to build up the tension, the payoff when things finally go down in that arc wouldnt have hit nearly as hard. Sometimes a show needs to slow down to let you feel the pressure.
