I watched the entire first season of 'The Bear' in one sitting, and honestly, I don't get the hype.

Everyone at my office in Chicago raved about it, saying it was the most stressful and brilliant show ever. I sat down on a rainy Saturday and powered through all eight episodes. While I liked the acting, I found the constant yelling and frantic pace more exhausting than engaging. It felt like being stuck in a hot kitchen for five hours. I guess I prefer my binge-watching to be a bit more of an escape. Has anyone else finished a hugely popular show and felt kind of let down?

That frantic pace is the whole point though. It puts you right in the chaos of a real kitchen. The stress isn't a bug, it's the feature that makes the calm moments hit so hard.

Exactly, that stress is the feature. You nailed it, @ninasanchez. When everything is flying at you, those few seconds where you catch up and everything is cooking right feel like a real win. It makes you feel like you actually pulled it off, instead of just going through the motions. That contrast is what makes the game stick with you.
