Just realized people keep skipping the first season of The Wire because it feels slow, but that's where all the major character groundwork gets laid.

I rewatched it last month and counted at least 12 key relationships and systems introduced in season one that don't pay off until seasons three or four, so skipping it means missing why the later twists actually matter.

Honestly the worst part is you miss all the small moments that make the characters feel real. Like, that slow burn is what makes you care when things go bad later. Skipping to the action just turns it into a plot summary without any of the heart. You gotta sit with the boredom sometimes for the payoff to actually hit.

My friend said the same thing after he skipped to season two.

Skipping the first season of a show is a wild move. The character introductions in season one are key. My cousin did that with a drama and was totally lost for three whole episodes.
