My brother talked me into watching a show with bad reviews and I get it now

Last week my little brother kept bugging me to watch this sci-fi show on Netflix that has like a 40% on Rotten Tomatoes. I told him no way, I only watch stuff with good ratings. He finally sat me down and said you are missing the point, the show is fun not perfect. We watched the first three episodes together and honestly the acting is rough but the story moves so fast I didn't care. Now I am on episode 7 and I get why he likes it. Has anyone else had a show that was panned by critics but totally hooked you?

Have you read about how some shows like "The Room" or "Birdemic" became cult classics because people enjoy them for different reasons than critics? I saw an article recently that said sometimes the "flaws" are actually what make a show memorable.

Totally agree with you @julia_fisher28, it's like the show is so BAD it circles back to being good. I see this same thing with old home videos I find online where the camera work is shaky and the lighting is terrible, but somehow those flaws make it feel more REAL and fun to watch. It's like in real life, the messy stuff is often what makes something stick in your memory way longer than a polished perfect version. So when a show is so flawed it gives you something to laugh about or talk about with friends, that's actually a HUGE win.
