Overheard a guy at the gym say he skips the last episode of every series

I was on the treadmill last week and this dude next to me told his friend he never watches finales because they always mess up the story. He said he pretends the second to last episode is the ending and it works every time. That got me thinking about how many shows I finished feeling let down by the ending. Has anyone else tried skipping the finale on purpose or is that just crazy?

Buddy of mine tried this with Dexter. He watched all the way up to the last episode of season four, the one where you know what happens with Rita, and just turned it off. Said that was the perfect ending for him and he refuses to watch anything after. Swears it saved the whole show for him because he never had to deal with the lumberjack nonsense. I asked him if he ever gets curious and he just shrugged and said nope, not even a little.

Oh man, that is such a smart way to handle it honestly. I get why he did that because season four's finale is basically a perfect gut-punch of an ending... you get that huge shock and then you just sit with it. No chance to see it get ruined by the weird seasons after where Dexter becomes a lumberjack or whatever that mess was. I bet every time he thinks about the show he just remembers that final moment with Rita and it hits harder because it's the last thing he ever saw. Kinda makes me wish I had the self-control to do that with a few shows myself...
