Rant: People keep saying 'they don't make shows like they used to' and I think they're wrong
I was rewatching 'The Wire' for the third time last month and my friend said that exact line. The thing is, we have shows like 'Severance' and 'Slow Horses' now that are just as complex and well written. I think people forget how much filler was in old network TV seasons with 24 episodes. The shift to shorter seasons on streaming lets writers focus on the story. What's a newer show you think holds up to the classics?

Totally agree, I read an article about how streaming cut out all the filler.

My old DVD box sets are full of episodes that just drag. I started skipping those filler episodes on rewatches and it made the whole show better. The pacing on streaming feels much tighter because of that.

Wait, are you saying old shows had filler or just more time to develop characters?
