Three years ago I hated season 2 of The Wire. Now I get it.

I gave up on it halfway through back then because the dockworkers felt so boring compared to the drug stuff. Last month I rewatched the whole show and realized that season is actually the smartest part of the whole series. Has anyone else changed their mind on a season after giving it a second chance?

Honestly the first time I watched it I was like "why are we on a boat" and almost quit the whole show. @taylor.mary is right about Ziggy being brutal though, that subplot is a total mess and really drags everything down. But people act like season 2 is some hidden masterpiece and I just don't buy it. The whole union politics and smuggling thing is fine but it's not like a revelation or anything, it's just a decent season of TV that got a bad rap at first. Tbh I still skip the Ziggy parts even on rewatch, that character is just too annoying to sit through.

Season 2 definitely grows on you but I still think its the weakest of the first four. The political stuff with Frank Sobotka is good but the Ziggy scenes are painful to sit through even on rewatch. The show gets way better once you get past the docks and back to the street level drama.
