After 3 tries I finally figured out why my forge welding kept failing on me
Switched from silica sand to borax for my flux last month and the difference was night and day, first weld stuck like it should have all along. Anyone else have a simple change that fixed a problem you'd been fighting for months?

Funny how sometimes it's the smallest tweak that unlocks everything. Makes you wonder how many other things in life we're overcomplicating when the answer was just swapping one thing for another.

Oh come on, sand works perfectly fine if you know what you're doing (which apparently takes skill, not just ingredients). You probably just got lucky with your technique improving at the same time you switched fluxes, not because borax is inherently better. Most of the time when people blame their flux, it's actually a heat control or prep issue they're not seeing.
