Found out my forge was losing heat because of a tiny air leak
I was scratching my head for 3 days why my forge wouldn't hit welding temp, then I saw a wisp of smoke coming from a pinhole near the burner mount. A $2 tube of furnace cement fixed it and now the thing runs 150 degrees hotter. Has anyone else found a random fix like that that saved their whole day?

Go grab a can of compressed air and spray it around every joint while the forge is running but not too hot yet. You'll see the flame flicker or change color at even the tiniest leak. Saved me from chasing ghosts more than once. That pinhole deal is exactly the kind of thing that drives you crazy because it's so small you don't think it matters, but it totally does.

Trying that trick saved me three hours of frustration on my first forge build last month.
