Heard a guy at the feed store say nobody under 40 can forge weld anymore
I was picking up some 1/4 inch round bar in Lexington last week when this older fella behind me in line told his buddy that nobody under 40 can forge weld a chain link anymore because everyone just buys it pre-made. I started smithing 11 years ago and learned my flux habits from a 70 year old named Ray who made me do it 40 times before he'd even look at it, so it got me wondering if he's right that the skill is fading. Do you think the old ways are actually dying out, or are younger smiths just learning it different now?
