I finally saw a working trip hammer at the old mill in Lancaster

The way they used a water wheel to power it was simple but really smart, and it made me wonder how many smiths still use that kind of setup. Has anyone here ever worked with one?

Wish I had, @maxm50. I've only ever seen the broken ones people post online. It's kind of a bummer, like they're all just ghosts of what they used to be. I mean, maybe it's just me, but I'd love to see one actually running for once.
