My anvil stand collapsed on me mid-forge Tuesday...
Was working on a set of gate hinges for a client in Portland and about 3 swings into a heavy draw, the whole wooden stand just buckled underneath my 150lb anvil. I had built it out of scrap 2x6's about a year ago, thought it was solid enough. The anvil tipped over and landed on my foot, luckily just bruised but it hurt like heck. Anyone else have a stand fail on them, and what did you switch to that holds up better?

Ngl, a buddy of mine had the same thing happen with his anvil stand and swore off wood after that.

Man, that's wild. I used to be all about wood stands for everything, thought they had that classic feel. But you and @marymorgan have me rethinking things now. Saw a buddy's anvil stand crack right down the middle last week, same story. Wood just can't handle that kind of pounding long term. I was dead set on building my next one from oak, but now I'm leaning towards steel legs or maybe a concrete block setup. This whole thread really opened my eyes.
