My old forge blower gave out halfway through a Damascus billet
It was a Champion 400 I got from a guy in Toledo, been running strong for almost eight years. I was at welding heat on a 120-layer stack, and it just... stopped. Had to pull everything out and let it cool, totally ruined the weld. Anyone know a good source for replacement motors that won't cost more than the forge?

My buddy's anvil cracked during a heavy forging session, sounded like a gunshot.

Man, that's the worst feeling. Watching a good piece of gear finally give up right when you can't stop. I had a hand crank blower seize on me once, same deal, right at critical heat. That sinking feeling when you have to yank the billet and just watch all that work go gray.

Timing is everything with this stuff, and it never fails that things break at the worst possible moment. It's like the universe has a sick sense of humor, same way a tire blows out exactly ten minutes before a job interview. The more you need something to hold together, the harder it tries to fall apart. That Champion 400 gave you eight good years, which is more than most tools give anyone these days. Probably just needs a new motor, but finding one that bolts up without filing and shimming for three hours is the real trick.
