Old timer at a shop in Maine showed me his hammer technique after my 5th try at a forge weld
I was struggling to get a billet to stick together at a demo in Ellsworth last summer, and this guy just walked over and said 'you're hittin' it too hard, not hot enough.' He showed me a light tapping method that saved my wrists and actually worked. Has anyone else gotten a tip from a random stranger that totally changed how you work at the anvil?

Are you really making a big deal out of a light tap tip?

A light tap tip? Come on @grantthomas, you know better than that. That "tap" might have cost someone their table's tip for the night if the server has to chase it down or gets stiffed on the percentage. You ever actually waited tables and seen how those tiny adjustments add up to real money over a shift?
