Paid $45 for a hand-forged bottle opener and it broke on the first beer.
The guy at the market swore it was tempered right, but the bottle cap didn't stand a chance and neither did the opener - has anyone else had luck with small forge-welded tools or is it always a gamble?

Guess it wasn't tempered for much of anything.

...and that's exactly what happens when the whole "handmade premium" thing becomes more about the story than the actual function. I've noticed this weird trend where people pay for the romance of the process (you know, the sweat of the blacksmith and all that) but the end result just doesn't hold up to basic use. It's like buying a fancy cast iron pan that can't actually take heat because someone sanded it down to look "artisanal." At the end of the day, a bottle opener needs to be hard enough to pop a cap, not just look like it was forged by a Viking.
