Spent $90 on a fancy coal rake and it was totally useless

Bought a forged coal rake from a guy at a meet last spring. Looked nice with the twisted handle and all. First real use and the tines bent after I tried breaking up a clinker. My $15 piece of rebar with a hook on the end works way better. Anyone else found that basic homemade tools outlast the fancy store bought stuff?

Nah, I've had good luck with forged tools if you buy from a real blacksmith.

Hold up, I gotta disagree a bit here. Honestly, forged tools from a real blacksmith are great and all, but they cost a fortune and you wait forever for them. Ngl, most folks can't afford that or don't have the patience. Forged stuff is tough, sure, but a good quality stamped tool from a known brand does the job fine for 99% of projects. Tbh, you're paying more for the story than the steel sometimes. Just not super practical for regular use.
