Swapped a hammer-in drift for a press-fit one after busting knuckles for two years
Picked up a 3/4 inch press-fit drift from a guy at a hammer-in last fall and it's way smoother than beating on a hammer-in drift with a sledge, no more bruised hands lol anyone else made the switch?

Busted knuckles are basically a blacksmith's rite of passage but yeah, I switched to a press-fit last spring. Feels like cheating after two years of hitting my thumb with a sledge every other swing. Now I just tap it once and it seats. No more ice packs after a long day. Pretty soon we'll all be using hydraulic presses for everything and forget what a real hammer feels like.

Totally agree with you on the press-fit thing, @jason_robinson. "Rite of passage" is right, I've got the scars to prove it. But I'd argue it's not just about saving your knuckles, it's about saving your shoulder and elbow too. After a long day of setting big fence posts with a sledge, that press-fit is a lifesaver for the next morning. It's like going from a manual crank to a power drill, once you get used to not swinging hard, you never want to go back. What kind of press-fit you running, the hydraulic or the big screw-type?
