Swapped to a coal forge from propane 3 months ago.

Honestly I never thought I'd go back to coal after using propane for 5 years at my shop in Eugene. But an old timer named Bill let me try his hand crank blower setup and the heat control is way better for forge welding. I'm still figuring out the fire management but I welded a 3 layer billet on my second try. Anyone else made the switch and regretted it or stuck with it?

Stick with it man, the learning curve is real but you'll get there. Took me like a month of burning my eyebrows off before I felt like I had any clue what I was doing with coal. Now I can't imagine going back to propane for anything but maybe small stuff.

Ngl the fire management just clicked for me after a few weeks of trial and error.
