That $150 forge welder's course was a total waste

Paid for a two day class in Denver thinking I'd learn flux techniques, but the instructor spent half the time on his podcast stories. I got more out of a $12 book on fire welding. Anyone else sit through a pricey workshop that taught them nothing?

YouTubers have made half these workshops obsolete.

Did you check the instructor's background before signing up? I actually read a forum thread last month where a few guys compared expensive welding classes to free content, and the consensus was that most of the value comes from the practice time, not the talk. @ruby_lane is right about YouTubers, some of those channels go step by step through flux techniques better than any classroom I've seen. The real shame is that you paid for hands-on time and got a podcast instead. For what it's worth, I heard that community colleges often run weekend courses for a fraction of that price, with instructors who actually teach. Keep that fire welding book handy, it sounds like you got the better deal.
