That ren fair demo in Denton where my tongs slipped mid-demo

I was showing a crowd how to draw out a leaf when my old tongs lost grip on a 3/8 rod and sent it flying into some kid's lemonade. Has anyone else switched to bolt-together tongs after a public fail like that?

Bolt-tongs are a no-brainer after that mess.

Blew out my knuckles first time I tried bolt-tongs on a stuck pipe. Thought I was being clever, then spent an hour picking steel splinters out of my palm. Your mileage may vary, but I've learned the hard way that bolt-tongs are a no-brainer only if you've got a really good first aid kit nearby. Still better than a cheater bar though, take it from someone who's launched a pipe wrench across the shop.

Hear you out, but is it really that serious? I've been using bolt-tongs for years, never had to touch a first aid kit over it. Maybe you're just grabbing them wrong or putting too much muscle into it. That pipe wrench story sounds like a bad day, sure, but blasting bolt-tongs as a no-brainer only if you've got bandages handy feels like an overreaction. You're making it sound like a trip to the ER, not a stuck pipe.
