That Tuesday everything just clicked with my forge welding

Was working on some wrought iron railing spindles in my garage shop and hit five out of six forge welds clean on the first try, which is a huge deal for me because I usually mess up at least half of them and have to start over, has anyone else had a day where your hammer just seemed to know where to go?

Wait till you get a day like that, you'll be chasing that high for weeks. I had one forge welding session where everything lined up and I thought I was some kind of blacksmith prodigy. Next day I burned through three pieces of stock and gave up to go watch TV. Pretty sure the hammer has a mind of its own and just decides when it wants to cooperate.

Yeah that hammer having a mind of its own thing reminds me of a buddy who took up bladesmithing. He spent six months grinding away on a single chef knife, got it to a mirror polish, heat treat was perfect, edge was screaming sharp. Next day he dropped it on the concrete floor point first and snapped the tip clean off. He said he just sat there staring at it for ten minutes then went inside and ate a whole bag of chips.
