I've been quenching in motor oil for 6 years and finally tried canola at a buddy's forge down in Fort Worth, and my 1084 blade came out way harder with zero scale. The old guy running the demo said 'son, you been fighting your quench this whole time' and I felt dumb. Anybody else switch oils and notice that big a difference, or did I just get lucky on that one blade?
