Visited a shop outside Nashville last weekend that used railroad anvils
The owner had a 150-year-old rail anvil he'd cut down and hardened himself, and the rebound was way better than my cast iron one has anyone else messed with converting scrap rail into an anvil?

That's a perfect example of something that's been around forever getting a second life. It's funny how people just throw away old stuff that's actually built better than what we buy today.

My grandpa had this old Craftsman lawnmower from the 70s, thing weighed a ton and you had to pull the cord like twenty times to get it going. He finally got a new one a few years back and just left the old one by the curb for trash pickup. I grabbed it, cleaned the carburetor, replaced the spark plug, and it's been running like a dream ever since. Meanwhile my neighbor's brand new mower from Home Depot died after two seasons, plastic deck cracked right down the middle. It's wild how we treat metal and steel like it's disposable now.
