Why does nobody talk about preheating your anvil in winter?

Took me 3 winters in my unheated shop in Ohio before I realized my hits were bouncing off cold steel, not bad technique. I started laying a $20 torch against the anvil face for 15 minutes before work and it changed everything about how my punches move. Anyone else do this or am I the only one who dealt with frozen anvils for years?
