A museum guard in Baltimore told me the trick is cheap postcards instead of $40 prints

I was complaining about my bare living room wall to a guard at the art museum last month and he said half the staff there frames postcards from the gift shop in $6 Ikea frames. I tried it with 5 postcards and now my hallway looks like a real gallery. Has anyone else done the postcard thing, and do you mat them or just toss them straight in the frame?
