Blu tack ruined my poster after 3 months

I used blu tack to hang a $5 thrift store movie poster in my dorm and when I took it down the oil stains went right through the paper. Anyone found a tape that doesn't destroy cheap posters?

Start by using a small piece of poster putty instead of a big glob, that usually stops the oil from soaking through. You can also try washi tape on the edges if you don't need it to hold up much weight.

Gotta respectfully disagree - I've actually had way better luck with a tiny glob than trying to use less, since too little putty and the poster just falls off overnight and makes a mess.
