My mom told me my gallery wall looked like a ransom note
She said it during a visit last spring and I was a little hurt at first. But she was right, I was just throwing random frames of different sizes up there with no plan. After that I measured out a 3 inch gap between each frame and stuck to black frames only, and now the whole thing looks way more put together for maybe $15 from Goodwill.

Respectfully, I kind of like the ransom note look. A little chaos in a gallery wall feels more personal than everything being perfectly spaced and matching. My own wall has frames from yard sales and a couple old maps mixed in, and the uneven gaps give it character. Your new setup sounds clean and nice, but sometimes the messy version tells a better story about who you are.

Kevin's got a point, there's something charming about a wall that looks like it was put together by a happy accident. My own living room has a shelf with mismatched frames and a rusty old horse shoe I found in a field, and people always comment on that more than any of the "proper" art. Your mom's comment stung, but you turned it into something that makes you happy now, and that's what matters.
